The Venerable Choeze Lotsel Gyamtso (Lobsang Tsultrim), a Tibetan Lama who has received asylum in the US, will be presenting a 2-day Mandala Workshop at the Center for Creative Renewal.

mandala

This unique opportunity will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31, 2009 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Lobsang's teachings will be accompanied by quiet time for walking and sitting meditation.

Mandala means literally "that which extracts the essence." In Tibetan Buddhism there are many different types of mandalas. Each mandala represents the architectural layout of the entire palace of a deity. There are multilayered symbolic images throughout the 'palace,' where iconography, placement, and color all have significance.

In this workshop Lobsang will discuss the map of the path to inner peace and compassion hidden in the mandala. Participants explore the entire map of the mandala through the measuring, drawing, painting and creation of their individual mandala, the Buddha of Compassion. This is a very simple introduction to an ancient invocational art form.

The map hidden in the mandala is not of external paths, rather the map is an internal path of consciousness. No artistic experience necessary. In this 2-part workshop participants will have the opportunities to discover and deepen their own meditative art.

The healing gardens of the Center will be a perfect backdrop for meditation, walking the labyrinth and quiet reflection in addition to the mandala teachings.

The cost for the 2 days is $120. which includes all the materials. Teas, water and fruit will be provided. Please bring a sack lunch. Space is very limited so early registration is advised.
